BREAKTHROUGH SILICON VALLEY
San Jose, CA
Project: Mobile App & Web Portal
As a leader in technology and innovation, Silicon Valley’s competitive edge is dependent on highly educated individuals. Yet in California, our public school system is not providing equal access or adequate funding for all our students to thrive.
Breakthrough Silicon Valley (BSV) fills an important void in Silicon Valley by ensuring its high-potential, at-risk students don’t fall through the cracks of our educational system. Without support, youth who are promising and hardworking, but face socioeconomic challenges (i.e. low-income, live in gang impacted communities) can be easily derailed.
Breakthrough relies on connecting with students on a consistent basis to provide resources and remind them of upcoming meetings, workshops, and events. Many of the students’ only access to internet at home is through there smart phones.
The Fellowship team will be responsible for implementing a mobile application and web portal, which is estimated to save BSV staff up to 300 hours per year. Over the next 5 years, the BSV staff estimate that the project will impact the lives of over 1,000 students and families. Online donations and engagement could also increase by as much as 20%.
This project is a chance for TFI Fellows to have a dramatic impact on the lives of underprivileged students around our Bay Area Community.
